Doing good work
A priest dies and goes to Heaven. At the Pearly Gates, he waits in line behind a young man.
Saint Peter says to the man, “Tell me your name, so that I may know if you may enter Heaven.”
The man says, “I’m Joe Green, I’m a taxi driver from New York City.” They hear the sound of trumpets and the gates open. Saint Peter smiles and says, “You may enter.”
Then the priest says loudly, “I’m Father Michael O’Connor. I have been preaching at Saint Mary’s Church for the past 43 years.”
No trumpets. “Hey!” says the priest. “That man was only a taxi driver, and he gets a fanfare. Why don’t I?”
“Up here, we go by results,” explains Saint Peter. “When you preached, people slept. But when he drove, people prayed.” [PERIOD]
